Nose Reshaping -
Surgical Recovery

Length of surgery

Operation takes 90-150 minutes depending upon technique.

Nights in hospital

Usually one night, occasionally two.

Dressings

You will have a splint over the nose held on by tape. There will also be a pad under the nose. The pad will be removed after 12 hours but the splint will stay on for 7 days.

Time off work

Allow 2 weeks. People vary in recovery. You will in yourself feel fine after 3-5 days. However, you will be bruised for 2 weeks and find it difficult to breath through the nose for 1-2 weeks.

Time to exercise

Walking a distance at 3-5 days, swimming by 3 weeks. Strenuous exercise (aerobics etc) should be avoided for 4-6 weeks.

Postoperative instructions

Day 1-2 You should be taking it very easy!
Day 3-7 Can start doing more. Be out and about though still in discomfort. Need to be protective of nose and splint.
Day 7-14 Feeling much better. Some patients can get back to most gentle activity. Dressing will be off after 7 days. Can still damage nose so protect it for further 1-2 weeks
Week 2-6 Should be back to work and doing anything you wish by 6 weeks.

Final Outcome

Some bruising is common and takes 2 weeks for most and up to 4 weeks for all to disappear. The final result will improve over the first 12 months.

Driving

Although you may feel able to drive by 5-7 days you need to be completely free of pain and restriction to be covered by your insurance.
