Skin Resurfacing -
Peel Methods and Preparation

It is important to get the skin into the best possible condition before treating it. A range of creams with various active ingredients (including Retin A and Hydroquinone) enable the skin to increase its healing power and reduce the changes on the pigment cells in the skin. This is usually used for a minimum of 6 weeks prior to treatment. The skin itself often improves markedly on this regime. This regime is also used for dermabrasion.

Once the preparation regime is completed the peel is performed in the clinic setting. No anaesthetic is required but a cold blower is used to reduce the sting which lasts a few minutes. You then go home and peeling will start a few days later. This lasts 3-14 days depending on the strength of the acid used. This will be chosen depending upon your skin needs.

Dermabrasion is different in that it is an operation and performed in the hospital. Can be performed under local or general anaesthetic.
